Thru Tubing Perforation Job Support

iProdTech had been involved in start-up and production optimisation support for a gas field onshore Nigeria. The production is now on decline and one of the opportunities to increase the production/recoverable volumes was identified as a thru tubing perforation of a sand interval above the existing sands. The well has a dual string completion hence the thru tubing perforation job was complex. The perforation job had to be conducted via the short string without damaging the long string. iProdTech was involved in technology selection for the perf job which included a magnetic oriented tool which would detect the long string and orient the perf guns away from the long string. The scope of work included:

  • Provide support to the client in preparing RFQ document during the tendering process for inviting bids from the vendors.
  • Support in bid evaluation which included review of vendor’s technologies for perforation in a dual string completion and review of their previous experience of such operations.
  • Discuss with the selected vendor and contribute to the perforation job design to conduct the perf job safely and optimally. Since the perf was planned through the short string, it was critical that the long string is avoided during the perf operation.
  • Work with the vendor on the detailed logging and perforation programme. Review vendor’s suggested well control procedures, gun preparation procedures, tool assemblies, pressure tests requirements, log data acquisition and reporting and indicators for perforation success.
  • Review well performance post perforation job.
  • Update production forecasts based on well performance post perforation.

The thru tubing perf job was operationally successful and there was an increase in well deliverability as per the post perf production performance. The producing life of the well has also been extended due to access of the additional reserves due to the perforation.
